Biography

As a fine artist based in Perth, Western Australia, Cherie Mongony is always looking for the next opportunity to translate life experiences into art. She produces artworks for both commission for exhibition, and often takes inspiration from her travels, as well as simple things that surround her in everyday life. She enjoys working with a variety of 2D media, including oil paint, watercolour, prisma color pencil, charcoal, clay scratchboard, pyrography, and pen ink.

Cherie knew from a young age that she would pursue a career in art, and began taking commissions from age 14. She won her first few art awards in high school, and began selling work in exhibition from age 17.

Cherie has used her art to raise over $6000 for various charities that aim to improve the lives of children living in third world countries.

Her studies in Fine Arts and Secondary Education at Curtin University in Perth Australia encouraged her growth as an artist, as well as her passion for teaching art to others. Through her teaching she is constantly inspired and challenged by the students to learn new techniques and processes. She is always developing her skills in order to provide the best possible learning experience for her students, and as such, her art is ever evolving as she continues to challenge herself with new media and subject matters.

Some of Cherie's art is based on photographs taken on her trips to Cambodia, Tanzania, and Kenya. These paintings and drawings show the faces of children living in poverty, as well as the beautiful wildlife of the countries.

Cherie hopes that her collectors will look at her work and be reminded to find beauty in everything.

'The smiling faces of those with nothing reminds us that we don't need much for happiness, and the detailed studies of wildlife, nature, and other objects can remind us to find beauty in the things around us...even the most simple of things.'

Cherie takes requests for commissions, offering the unique opportunity for buyers to turn their favourite images into works of art, wether it be a family portrait, a pet, or a treasured item.
